New Park Opened At Saibaba Colony
Mayor R. Venkatachalam, the Nilgiris MP R. Prabhu and Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy watch two children at a newly-opened park at Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore on Tuesday. The Coimbatore Corporation is keen on developing parks across the city in order to provide enough green spaces amid a growing number of concrete structures. With this as the objective, the Corporation is developing 42 parks at a cost of Rs.4.76 crore. One of the parks was opened on Balasubramaniam Road at Saibaba Colony on Tuesday by Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy and the Nilgiris MP R. Prabhu, Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Corporation Commissioner V.K. Shanmugham, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, officials and councillors of the Corporation were present. The Corporation said the cost of developing the 17,423 sq.ft. park was Rs.15 lakh. It had a nearly half-a-km walkers’ track, a 6,205 sq.ft. children’s play area, a 5,522 sq.ft. lawn, a library and toilets. Mr. Prabhu contributed Rs.10,000 for establishing the library.
