Training Course On Braille Enrichment
Children with visual impairment should be encouraged to learn Braille effectively, said I.Arivanandam, Regional Director of National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Chennai, recently. He was delivering the valedictory address of a short-term training course on Braille enrichment for teachers of children with visual impairment.
It was organised by the Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University. The use of Braille was gradually decreasing as more and more children with visual impairment were using electronic devices, he said. As the world was celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the founder of the Braille method, a series of programmes were being organised world over for the benefit of people with visual impairment.
The course was aimed at enriching the theoretical and practical aspects of Braille reading and writing skills. It was also designed to provide an in-depth understanding of preparing formats and developing material for teaching mathematics and science to children with visual impairment. The training programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dehradun.
