120 Students Visited RMS
About 120 students from three schools visited the Railway Mail Service (RMS) in Coimbatore on Saturday as part of the ‘Mails Day’ programme. They spent nearly three hours at the RMS to learn more about its services. According to M. Gugendiran the Assistant Superintendent of RMS, the students learnt about the different types of mails that come and go out of the RMS every day: letters, magazines, printed materials, registered articles, etc., and also about how these are sorted out and moved, the clearance, packing and dispatching.The RMS also has facilities such as track and trace of the registered goods and computerised registration of the mails and parcels. They also attended a short discussion. Mr. Gugendiran said the RMS, Coimbatore, handled about 1.3 lakh mails a day. The number of printed materials, books, magazines and annual reports handled by it was on the rise, he added.
