Encroachments near the Ondipudur overbridge in the city being demolished during an eviction drive by the Highways Department on Saturday. Highways authorities along with police, revenue and Corporation officials removed encroachments near the Ondipudur flyover in the city. The eviction drive is expected to widen the motorable space and enable construction of a service road for those living along the flyover.Invited To The U.S. :

Blast :
Three persons sustained injuries in a mysterious explosion that took place in a house at New Colony in Anupparpalayam area of Tirupur early Saturday. Around 3 a.m., an explosion took place with a loud noise injuring three inmates of the house - Jeeva (50), Preethi (18) and Vivek (16) - when they were fast asleep. Police suspect the explosion to be due to gas leak. The injured were rushed to hospital.
Protest :
Police foiled attempts by 10 activists of the Dalit Panthers of India to burn the effigy of Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapakse near Mettupalayam bus stand. They were removed when they raised slogans condemning Rajapakse for the genocide and for the Sri Lankan Navy’s firing on Tamil fisherman along the maritime boundary.
Pledge - Taking Cermony:
As part of the 76th anniversary celebrations of Indian Air Force, a pledge-taking ceremony was conducted on October 10 for the personnel of the 5 Base Repair Depot of Air Force Station, Sulur. According to a press release issued here, the pledge was administered by Air Commodore P.K. Srivasatava, Air Officer Commanding.
Sports Meet :
Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Symphony is conducting a sports meet for the children of Udavum Karangal, near Bharathiar University, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, a release said.
Man Detained :
Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, K.C. Mahali on Saturday detained Guna alias Gunasekaran under Goondas Act for one year. He was recently arrested by the city police as part of a crime prevention drive. Inquiries revealed that Guna was already involved in four cases of house breaking and burglary and sentenced to three years RI, hence the decision to detain him.
