Attempt To Bury Girl Child Alive
The Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested three women for attempting to bury a six-month-old girl child alive at Palladam in the district. Police said in a press release that the child belonged to Ramesh and Lakshmi of Tirupur. They were staying with Ramesh’s mother Shanthi and her sister, Baby.
There was constant problem in the family because of the couple having a girl child. The elders did not like the child and had spread rumours that it had mental disability. Shanthi and Baby took the child, Shakthi Mohana, by bus to Palladam on Wednesday. They went to a burial ground a little away from the bus stand and decided to bury the child alive there.
Another woman, Vasanthi, was engaged in digging the pit to bury the child. Autorickshaw drivers Bashir, Ramasamy and Kumar, who were passing by, prevented them from burying the child. The three women were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The child was handed over to its parents.
