Evaluation Committee Will Soon

A “third eye” evaluation committee to monitor the activities of the study centres of the School of Distance Education of Bharathiar University will be set up soon, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam told on Tuesday. The university had 147 centres all over India. The Vice-Chancellor had received complaints regarding discrepancies in collection of fee, distribution of study material, illegal sale of study material, centres accepting fraudulent school completion certificates, etc. There were also complaints from students regarding contact / practical classes not being conducted regularly. To streamline the functioning of the centres and also ensure that a regular monitoring system was put in place, the committee would come into being. A team of not less than two members would be selected from each State to constitute a committee.

Many such committees would visit the centres located in that particular State to check for anomalies. Mr. Thiruvasagam said there would also be surprise checks. Based on the reports, action would be taken against erring centres. “This is the first time the university is constituting such a committee for monitoring study centres and to ensure efficient administration,” Mr. Thiruvasagam said.
