Permission Denied For DMDK

The district unit of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has been denied permission by the police to take out a vehicle rally that has been planned in Coimbatore as a prelude to the October 18 youth wing conference in Chennai.

The Inspector-General of Police (West Zone), Pramod Kumar, said in a release on Sunday that headquarters secretary of the party P. Parthasarathy and Coimbatore district secretary Dinesh Kumar had sought permission for a rally on motorcycles and vans with public address systems. The cadres had planned to hold torches during the rally as part of publicising the Chennai conference. The police said such a rally would be a hindrance to the public and free flow of traffic. Above all, court directions on earlier occasions were clear in prohibiting such rallies on highways as these would hinder normal life.

Hence, in accordance with the rules and court rulings, the DMDK was asked to carry out the campaign by using just one vehicle. Efforts to serve the permission letter with the condition went in vain as Mr. Dinesh Kumar refused to accept it. Hence, a copy of this was pasted on his premises as per the rules. Since, the denial of permission for a rally with many vehicles and conditional permission for just one vehicle was in accordance with the rules, any attempt to violate the same would be dealt with severely as per the relevant legal provisions, the release added.
