Rasi Seeds Established R&D Centre

Rasi Seeds has established a research and development centre in Attur at an outlay of Rs. 10 crore. A release from the company said the biotech and plant breeding research facility would develop multi crop varieties and hybrids that would benefit mainly the farmers of Punjab and Haryana. It would provide employment to about 150 agricultural scientists.


The new facility would focus on research in maize, paddy, wheat, bajra, sunflower and vegetables, apart from cotton. The centre would also work on improving the yield of tapioca and developing varieties resistant to Cassava Mosaic virus. The company was developing a technology in association with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Madurai Kamaraj University. “This initiative will not have any commercial interest,” according to M. Ramasami, Managing Director of Rasi Seeds.



The company had two lakh sq.ft. space to process 15,000 tonnes of seeds of different crop varieties. This would be upgraded, incorporating modern technology and a new facility to process maize seeds was being established at Chinna Salem at a cost of Rs. 15 crore, according to the executive director of the company R. Rajendran.
