Washermen Colony Flooded

The Washermen Colony in the city that was flooded after a heavy downpour on Sunday. After a dry spell for sometime, the city received some sharp showers since Saturday night. A few spells of heavy rain led to water logging at the Washermen Colony, near Ukkadam. The underpass at Kikani was probably among the earliest of the city infrastructure to run into trouble.

Residents in Washermen Colony said water entered the streets and the houses after the rain. There was at least two to three feet of water even inside the houses in the morning. Clogged drains were said to be the reason for water stagnating in the area till noon. Thereafter, the water level began to decrease. While residents welcomed the rain after a hot spell, stagnant water in potholes and haphazardly covered pits made driving risking in some parts of the city.
