‘High Q’ Test
Participants at ‘High Q’, organised by Cognizant at GD auditorium in Coimbatore on Saturday. What is common to former President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, actor Amitabh Bachchan, tennis star Martina Navratilova and film star Mallika Sherawat? It might take a while to answer this one. But, one student from the audience of the ‘High Q’ quiz contest organised by Cognizant Technology Solutions, had the answer. They are all members of the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Over 500 students from 50 schools in the Coimbatore region took part in the quiz which had questions spanning a variety of subjects. The penultimate round had questions that required lateral thinking. Multiple cues were provided and the students had to come up with an answer. “These are the kind of questions that are asked for the IIT tests. You should think out of the box to answer them,” said Giri Subramaniam, the quiz master.
The six finalists were Stanes Higher Secondary School, Lisieux Matriculation Higher Secondary School, G.D.Matriculation Higher Secondary School, SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Carmel Garden Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kallar, Mettupalayam. The event was the first of the kind conducted by Cognizant in Coimbatore. The company, as part of its corporate social responsibility, had been conducting similar programmes in various parts of the country for the last one year, said Vishnu Potty, Vice President and Coimbatore Head Operations, Cognizant. G.D.Matriculation Higher Secondary School emerged the winners. Carmel Garden won the second place. The winners were given ipods as prizes.
