Local Bodies Day Celebrations
Mayor R. Venkatachalam (second right) leads a rally in the city on Saturday to mark the Local Bodies Day celebrations. The governance at local bodies has been improving at a rapid pace, observed Coimbatore Mayor R. Venkatachalam on Saturday. He was speaking at a function organised by the Corporation to observe “Ullatchigal Thinam” (Local Bodies Day). Earlier, the students of the Corporation schools took out a rally holding placards hailing local self governance and local bodies. The rally from VOC Park concluded at Sidhapudur Corporation Higher Secondary School.
He also gave away prizes to three Corporation schools and boys who had excelled in the essay and elocution contests. Collector V. Palanikumar, speaking at the local bodies day function organised at Vadapudur near Kinathukkadavu, said that the objective of the official machinery was to improve the living conditions of the people.
