Coimbatoreian Filed Nomination Papers At Tirumangalam

Independent candidate Noor Mohammed, filed his nomination papers for the Tirumangalam assembly bypoll scheduled to be held on January 9 as nominations opened on Monday. Mohammed has so far contested as an independent in the States elections 16 times. Way back in 1997, he had won a byelection to the Kurichi Municipality.

At the time of filing the nomination papers on Monday, the name of the person who seconded Noor Mohammed was found missing in the electoral rolls. It took some time to find another person to second his nomination. Though I am not expecting a victory, I am confident that I can secure a good chunk of votes this time, Mohammed told Express. I will continue to contest as it brings me fame and I hope someday a political party may offer me a ticket considering my determination to serve the public, said Mohammed, who runs an STD booth at Sundarapuram in Coimbatore.

Madurai district Shiv Sena president Paramasivam also submitted his nomination papers on Monday. Meanwhile in a related development DMDK founder Vijayakanth said here on Monday that the name of the party candidate for the coming Tirumangalam by-election would be announced soon, after examining the 40 applications received from the party workers. He said that the purpose of his visit to Madurai was to select the candidate.
