Released Prisoners Needs Rehabilitation
Released prisoners, who were convicted in the Coimbatore serial blasts case, waiting at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday to seek rehabilitation. Thirty one persons, who were convicted in the Coimbatore serial blasts case, served their sentences and discharged about an year ago, thronged the Collectorate on Monday seeking rehabilitation measures. In their petition, they said that their 10-year imprisonment as undertrials had left their families in dire economic constraints.
Even after one year or one-and-a-half years after the release from the prison, they were struggling to find jobs, they said. They also pointed out that they were working as coolies for a meagre wage of Rs. 125 a day. Under such circumstances, hiring a house and paying rent would not be possible. Hence, they appealed to the administration to help them either by allotting government houses or by giving them vacant sites on which they could put up “huts”.
