Request For Frequent Train Between Coimbatore To Mettupalayam

Voluntary Organisation in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) has asked the Southern Railway authorities to run frequent shuttle train services between Coimbatore and Mettuppalayam. In a memorandum, spokesperson of VOICE, B.A. Vadooth, said that the Coimbatore – Mettuppalayam line should be electrified so as to operate services on either direction once in two hours.

Till then, diesel engine trains should be operated on this section at least five times a day. Mr. Vadooth also expressed the concern at the dwindling cargo movement from Mettuppalayam station and called for making arrangements for cargo handling of sugar manufactured at places such as Sathyamangalam. Mr.Vadooth said that 44 acres and 72 cents available with the railways at Mettuppalayam could be used to set up manufacturing facilities for railway spares.

To increase the patronage for Mettuppalayam railway station, Mr.Vadooth suggested that some of the trains bound for destinations in other States could be made to start from Mettuppalayam station. He demanded a day time train “Marina Express” to Chennai from Mettuppalayam. Mr.Vadooth suggested that additional coaches should be attached to the Mettuppalayam – Coimbatore morning train.
