Coimbatore Start-Up Companies Nominated In TATA NEN

Seven start-ups from Coimbatore have found a place among the 580 nominations received from across the country for the ‘TATA NEN Hottest Start-ups Awards 2008.’ The nominations closed on October 22.

The awards were launched on August 27 by National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) in collaboration with the TATA Group. They are meant to provide visibility to the start-ups, engage public and improve support for them. Nominations have come in from more than 40 cities and 30 industry segments. The nominated start-ups are campaigning for votes till November 5.

Thirty short-listed finalists will be announced on November 6 on the basis of the most number of votes they win, combined with the highest expert ratings.

The start-ups from Coimbatore and their Products & Sectors are listed below.

Romit Chaterji, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, Tata Services Limited, said: “As we shift towards a more global outlook, it is essential that entrepreneurship is nurtured. The Tata Group is collaborating with NEN in their endeavour to identify potential start-ups and we hope that our support will have an encouraging impact on entrepreneurs and youth.”


According to Laura Parkin, Executive Director, NEN, the response has been gratifying and the diversity of innovations inspiring. “We look forward to working with the entrepreneurial community to strengthen, improve and build a platform for future entrepreneurs,” she said. Phase II of the awards will open on November 6 and will comprise on-ground and online campaigning by the 30 short-listed start-ups. This will culminate in a major voting drive where the public will vote for the top five winners which will be declared on December 23.


The awards include business training, mentoring and incubation support of up to Rs. 50 lakh by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, Ahmedabad, besides other things. Tata Consultancy Services will provide common office applications and vertical specific applications free of cost in the areas of manufacturing, retail, healthcare and education.
