Prathipa of Commerce Department at the graduation day of Angappa College of Arts and Science in the city on Saturday. Youth should be honest and dependable and should explore the skills that are needed for a task when they join a job, according to M. Ponnavaikko, vice-chancellor of Bharathidasan University. Speaking at the Graduation Day programme of Angappa College of Arts and Science here on Saturday, he said that education was once easily available to all.
Today, it has become expensive - from the primary classes to getting a job. In any country, public should be able to get their needs without struggle. There should be no hunger. However, even after 61 years of independence, 26 per cent of the population was living below the poverty line in India. The country’s Gross Domestic Product was one of the highest in the world and India ranked third globally in purchasing parity of its people. “So, India is not a poor country. It is rich in resources,” he said. However, the divide between the rich and the poor was widening since there was no sharing of resources. Several groups were being formed and there was fear of violence.

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam envisaged India as a super power by 2020 and his confidence was on youngsters. “You all should become good citizens,” he urged the passing out candidates. They should have integrity and should continually seek knowledge. “Aspire for more education and not just wealth,” he said. T.V. Angappan, chairman of Angappa Educational Institutions called upon the students to work hard and serve the country. About 150 students received their degrees in arts and science courses.
