Singapore Education Fair

Students interacting with a counsellor at the Singapore Education Fair in Coimbatore on Saturday. Representatives of seven Singapore universities interacted with students and parents as part of the one-day Singapore Education Fair organised by The Hindu Education Plus along with IMTP Consultants here on Saturday.

Apart from creating awareness on higher education prospects in Singapore, the fair aimed at promoting the country as the education hub of Asia. From traditional disciplines to newer areas such as tourism and hospitality, and design, the universities offered a variety of options to students. Most of the universities had tied up with universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States and specialised programmes from these universities were offered. Though the student could learn at the university in Singapore, the degree would be conferred by the international university.

Singapore’s public universities, the NUS, the Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Management University, offered tuition grant schemes to students by way of which 75 to 80 per cent of their tuition fees would be covered. Students who got this facility, however, would have to work in Singapore or in a Singapore-based firm in any other country. “Tourism is one of the fastest growing segments in the country. This steady growth has created about 60,000 new jobs,” says Dhvani Anumolu, Assistant Manager, Singapore Education. “Geographical and cultural proximity, affordability and quality of education are the main factors that make Singapore an ideal destination for Indian students looking to continue their higher studies,” she adds.

Private universities such as Raffles College of Design, TMC Academy and Tourism Management Institute of Singapore, James Cook University, At-Sunrice Global Chef Academy, and PSB Academy offered certificate to postgraduation courses in engineering, arts and science, design, business and catering. Some of them also offered full and partial scholarships. The Republic Polytechnic offered diplomas in information technology, engineering, and material science.
