Accident Prevention Measure Programme

City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali explains accident prevention measures and emergency care for accident victims at a programme organised by Kovai Medical Center and Hospital in Coimbatore. A meeting on trauma care and accident prevention, organised by Kovai Medical Center and Hospital here on Sunday, stressed corporate-social responsibility in preventive measures and also in ensuring emergency medical facilities and health insurance.

Speaking on the “Role of police and citizens in preventing road accidents and saving precious lives,” City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali stressed the need to prevent accidents through education and compliance to rules and very little enforcement. He explained the various education methods adopted by the police, such as training to bus and autorickshaw drivers on traffic rules and regulations and motivating youngsters to wear helmets.

The Commissioner sought the cooperation of all sections of society in implementing the various accident prevention measures. These included putting up speed breakers in school zones and preventing reckless driving. He appreciated the support from Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Corporation Commissioner V.K. Shanmugham and councillors of the Corporation in carrying out these measures.

Chairman of the hospital Nalla G. Palaniswami spoke on the need for various measures to prevent accidents and loss of lives on roads. President of the hospital U.K. Ananthapadmanabhan pointed out the need for emergency facilities in large hospitals to treat victims of road traffic accidents and also disasters such as bomb blasts, train accidents and plane crash. He assured the support of the city’s hospitals to the city police’s Golden Hour project to save those injured in accidents.

Mr. Ananthapadmanabhan said more than 300 residents in the colonies around the hospital also attended the programme to know of the role of the community, the local bodies and the hospitals in preventing accidents. The importance of accident-related health insurance was also highlighted at the programme. Branch Managers from New India Assurance and Star Health and Allied Insurance spoke on the benefits of health and accident insurance.
