Plea to fill vacancies in Mettupalayam GH

An appeal has been made to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for immediate measures to fill vacancies to the posts of doctors and office assistants in the Government Hospital at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore District. In a letter to the Chief Minister, the hospital’s advisory committee member, A.P. Varadarajan, has pointed out the need to fill the vacancies in a hospital that should serve the medical needs of nearly three lakh people in and around Mettupalayam.

The letter said the hospital served 340 villages in the Mettupalayam region that included the Mettupalayam Municipality and the Karamadai and Sirumugai Town Panchayats. People from Burliyar in the Nilgiris also took treatment at this hospital that had more than 1,000 out-patients every day.

People injured in road accidents were brought to the hospital from Burliyar and Puliyampatti. Only after being provided with initial treatment or first aid here, the injured were referred to bigger centres in Coimbatore city.As the hospital in Mettupalayam did not have specialists in ENT, dermatology and orthopaedics, the patients had to travel to Coimbatore city. The State Government should appoint these specialists immediately, Mr. Varadarajan said in the letter.

The other posts that needed to be filled were: junior office assistant, assistant and record room clerk, x-ray technician, and dark room assistant
