Exhibition on mental health

Vazhikatti Mental Health Foundation will hold in the city on October 10 and 11 an exhibition on various types of mental illnesses and their management.Director of the foundation K. Selvaraj told presspersons on Thursday that the event was being organised to mark the World Mental Health Day. This was to promote awareness on and understanding of mental health, mental disorders and mental health care.

A number of educational materials in Tamil would be displayed at the exhibition to enable the common people to get credible and scientific information on the aspects focussed on by the foundation.A mental health services directory would be released during the exhibition.

Health care service

It would have the addresses of various mental health care service providers in the State.Dr. Selvaraj, a Professor of Psychiatry, said the foundation would hold this exhibition every year on October 10, the World Mental Health Day.Many people with mental health problems continued to be in distress and with poor functions. This affected their family and social and occupational network.The problems increased the family and social burden and affected the productivity of all those closely connected to the patients.

Many persons opt for non-medical methods of cure that only complicated the problems or delayed recovery, Dr. Selvaraj said to stress the importance of knowledge on proper management.
