Govt Exhibition Inaugurated

Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy (right) inaugurating the Government Exhibition in the city on Saturday. The State Minister for Information, Parithi Illamvazhuthi on Saturday inaugurated the 121st Government Exhibition on Jail Grounds on Dr.Nanjappa Road.
The exhibition will be open to the public for 60 days.

Entry fee for children will be Rs. 3 and for adults Rs. 5. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Parithi Illamvazhuthi pointed out that exhibitions were being conducted by the State Government with an intention to create the required awareness among the public on the various Government schemes. The objective was to make people aware of the schemes and the benefits out of them so that the people could make use of the schemes to enhance their living conditions.

The Minister said that it was the 121st Government Expo in the State and the 24th one in Coimbatore. Such exhibitions have so far earned a profit of over Rs. 20 crore for the Government. Besides taking Government’s schemes and projects to the notice of the people, the exhibitions also provided shopping opportunities and recreational avenues for the people especially during the summer vacations, he said. He said that in addition to 14 Government Departments, the Government Undertakings, Quasi Government establishments and institutions such as Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and Agricultural University were taking part in the exhibition.

There would be separate stalls for the Women Self Help Groups to showcase and market their products besides an exclusive area for display and sale of books. Rural Industries Minister, Pongalur N. Palanisamy in his speech said that Coimbatore was registering a record performance in industrial growth next to Chennai. The Coimbatore City was growing by leaps and bounds, reiterating the need for annexing the peripheral areas as part of Coimbatore City to make it Greater Coimbatore.

He said that a proposal in this regard had been forwarded to the Government. To plan and implement the future growth of the City, Mr.Palanisamy appealed to Mr.Parithi Illamvazhuthi (who also holds the portfolios of Urban Development and Planning) to accord priority for setting up the Coimbatore Development Authority (CDA) on the lines of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). Collector V. Palanikumar welcomed the gathering, Corporation Commissioner, V.K. Shanmugam, District Panchayat Chairman, C.R. Ramachandran spoke.
