Mridangam Artist Begins Marathon Performance

Kuzhalmannam G.Ramakrishnan, mridangam artiste, begins a marathon performance at Nehru College of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences in Coimbatore on Friday. Mridangam artiste Kuzhalmannam G.Ramakrishnan from Palakkad, is all set to break his own record of playing the mridangam non-stop for 101 hours. He started his performance at the Nehru College of Aeronautics here on Friday.

It was in May May 2005 that he performed a five-day marathon on Mridangam, which found him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records. He has been playing the mridangam for more than 27 years and has performed with accomplished musicians.He would perform continuously for more than five days (until he broke his own record).
He has performed in over 5,000 stages and has won several awards such as the “kalaa praveena,” “mridanga vaadya kalaa thilakam,” “vaadya samrat,” and “kalaa vallabha.” Mr.Ramakrishnan also has a passion for painting. He runs a centre for music in Kerala. The time would be recorded and witnesses would monitor the performance. Mr.Ramakrishnan would be entitled to a five-minute break after each hour. Music lovers who wish to watch the performance can visit the college on the Palakkad Main Road, Kuniamuthur.
