Eight persons were arrested on Sunday from Coimbatore and Erode for spreading rumours that many babies who were administered polio drops have been affected. Police officials said that one Udhayakumar, 46, an AIADMK headload workers union leader of Suramapatti, and his friend Yoganathan, 45, a worker at a timber depot in Periyavalasu, were standing before Erode GH and spreading rumours about the polio immunisation. Meanwhile, in Coimbatore, six persons belonging to VCK were arrested for pelting stones, picking up a quarrel with police as well as spreading rumour about polio drops.
